ABOUT
Get to know me!
Hello! My name is Gayathri Ramakrishnan. I love to garden, cook, bake and spend time with my kids. I grew up in India and moved to the States in 2003.
It would have been easy to go and join the workforce and become yet another technology worker in Silicon Valley. I even acquired the skills and degrees to do so. But a lifetime of observing my mother, who was a school teacher for more than 40 years, left a burning desire in me to join the teaching profession instead. So I went back to school and got my teaching credentials from San Jose State University.
My first job as a teacher was to teach a 4th grade class in Willow Glen Elementary. It was a very rewarding experience for me as I proved to myself that this is something I really enjoy doing. Teaching is a passion of mine and it is much more than a job. In the past I have worked at various elementary schools. I always wanted to utilize my industrial chemistry background and teach middle/high school students. I have taught ELA and social studies to middle school students in the past in addition to working as a computer science professor at a college. With school going children of my own (a 6th grader and a 9th grader), I am very cognizant of the the fact that a teacher has a big responsibility in engaging with the children and creating a nurturing and challenging environment at school. I am really looking forward to a great year at Ida Price.
